(AT GALVANIZE) Presenting: Deep Freeze Design – Don’t Let Winter Win

Deep Freeze Design (https://www.deepfreezedesign.org/) – Founder & Colorado School of Mines Student Rhiannon Tulloss presenting, is designing an innovative hose that can withstand below-zero temperatures without freezing making it easier to use outside and in extreme weather conditions.

Currently, facilities that need to transfer water outside during the winter months have to find unconventional ways of keeping their pipes and hoses from freezing. Agricultural facilities, as well as livestock facilities, need to water plants as well as animals in cold and extreme weather conditions. A low-voltage and passive heating element is best used in these situations, as well as a universal solution for all types of hoses.
A stationary “Warming Box” and a portable hose reel are combined to make use simple. The inside of the spool will have a heating coil/element fixed to the inside. On the outside of the spool, the hose is wrapped around the aluminum pipe. The spool will then be placed inside the stationary box for warming. This design is unique because it is not time-consuming to put the hose into, and requires less work than manually draining the hose. It also serves as a storage box and placeholder for the hose, extending the life of the hose and ensuring that the rubber does not crack or become weathered from the elements.
Our target market is (currently) agriculturists and farmers in the US who need conventional hoses to last throughout the winter and are tired of thawing hoses in their homes in order to beat the cold & are willing to pay for an innovative warming box and portable unit.
Our competition is Ace Hardware, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply. Our competitive advantage is portability, convenience, and energy efficiency.
